ESPN Magazine and its 2010 World Cup Preview.
The article focuses on the Spanish team and how they are favorite to win the tournament. There is a Rafa mentioning in the article, it is a very nice one that highlights how important of a figure is Rafa in Spain and how he has been an inspiration to his fellow Spanish sportsmen. Here's the extract:
"Or maybe we are about to witness something new. Perhaps this Spain won't roll over. Perhaps, despite the hardship, this year's team will bull his way through, like the country's favorite athlete, Nadal. 'Everybody here follows him' says Red Fury and Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol. Credit Nadal's relentless determination and his continuing quest to top Federer in the rankings (a feat he first pulled off after winning Wimbledon 2008), both of which exemplify Spain's world beating attitude and its discipline. 'In the past, the top football players were always in the papers for closing down discotheques' says Antonio Martin, the academic director for the sports management program at Madrid's IE Business College. 'There is something appealing to people about how Rafa spends his days off fishing with his dad, and has had the same girlfriend for years'. Fittingly, Rafa, a Real Madrid fan who played striker until age 12, has soccer bloodlines; his uncle Miguel Angel Nadal was a defensive ficture for Barcelona who earned 62 caps for the national team. In tennis loving nation that's mad for soccer, it makes perfect sense that Rafa's triumph resonate. Says Torres 'For me, at least, to see Nadal get to No.1 in the world ahead of Federer is the greatest achievement. To get ahead of the greatest player of all time is a reason to be proud"
Also wanted to post this on the woman Rafa mentioned of her passing & couldn't mourn her properly.
