TONI NADAL: "I'D SIGN FOR 2009, BUT WITH NO INJURIES"

The coach and uncle of Rafael Nadal, Toni Nadal, was the protagonist of the edition of Fora de Joc. The mentor of the world number two already prepares with his pupil the 2010 season, and the Mallorcan will depart on 29 December to participate in the year's first exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi. Toni Nadal said that despite the injuries and the second half of the year, where the tennis player from Manacor has not been able to add a tournament, he would sign for the achievements of 2009. "It was a great season at first with the title of the Open of Australia, but the most important part of the year came and he could not be there. Definitely, I think the year was not bad, I would sign for it in 2010, although admittedly we have been below the previous three."

Then the coach of Rafael Nadal said his pupil's calendar is not fixed by commercial interest and the sporting character of the tournaments always dominates, also reiterated that the choice of playing in Madrid was not correct, but there were many determining factors that pushed them to it. "You get to Madrid after winning in Rome and you want to play, and even more if it is in Spain, and it's also a Masters Series. The commercial interest is not found in the big tournaments and if in the small, if that were so, we would play exhibitions one after the other."

On injuries he stated that no specific work will be undertaken to combat them and that tennis is a very tough sport both mentally and physically. "This is a violent, aggressive sport, but the preparation should be the same as last season. He has 7 years on the circuit and his game is different, it is not a positive for him to have mental and physical wear." Finally Toni Nadal said that the wish for the upcoming season is that he not suffer any injury and that Rafael Nadal can play his best tennis. "What is important is not to suffer injury setbacks. And I wish he could win Wimbledon and for the first time the U.S. Open."
