Rafael Nadal defeated David Ferrer at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell Tournament this afternoon with a 6-2, 6-4 scoreline. Every clay season we tend to say the same thing, read the same headlines during this time of year.. King of Clay, Can Rafa be beaten? Rafa's clay streak goes on... etc.. And I never get tired of hearing them. Every year Rafa seems to be beating his own records, replacing them with new one's & equaling; bettering the legend clay players of old. This year Madrid & Rome switch dates so next will be Madrid for Rafa a Master 1000 event where Roger Federer & Novak Djokovic will most likely be there.
Having won the ATP World Tour 500 clay-court tennis tournament five successive times from 2005-2009, Nadal becomes the first player in the Open Era to win two tournaments at least six times. Last weekend he defeated Ferrer in straight sets to win the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters crown for the seventh year in a row.
As champion, Nadal received 500 South African Airways 2011 ATP Ranking points and € 290,000 in prize money, while Ferrer collected 300 ranking points and € 145,750.
