Found some articles on the Spanish Government & how they are using Rafa's image & the status of that whole story. Rafa says he will lend his image for free to help his country. Which I think is insanely generous, since I think Rafa promotes Spain & the Islands without even saying a word. everyone I know, knows about Mallorca because of this man. I say pay this man what you owe him.

Tennis player Rafael Nadal, following the announcement of the government that he wants to rescind its publicity contract with the Govern due to budget problems and a promotional strategy change, declared yesterday to radio station Ultima Hora Punto that he does not want to cause any problem for the Govern.
“I’m willing to lend my image for free in 2011.”
Nadal made it very clear that everything related to the promotional contract “is in the hands of my team, but my idea is not to cause any problem. The Govern knows my opinion and I’m here to help and not cause problems for the Balears, which is my home. I’m prepared to come to an agreement.”
In relation to the change of strategy, Nadal did not want to get into any polemics, but he left the door open to collaborate with the Govern with all that he is asked to do.
“I have always supported the Balears, before the contract and after the contract. What’s more, I promote the Islands every week all over the world,” concluded the #1 tennis player.
The Govern, through the Council of Tourism, wants to have a new contract with Nadal before the weekend, in order to avoid any type of problem during the next World Travel Market Fair in London, which begins November 8th.
The Executive will rescind the actual contract, with the intention of not paying 2 million in 2011, and will come to a new contractual agreement in order to use Rafael Nadal’s image in 2011.

The Minister of Tourism, Joana Barceló, has confirmed that, finally, the Government will use the image Rafael Nadal at the World Travel Market in London, although she said that has yet to "redirect" the agreement to promote tourism got the executive with the world No. 1 tennis player in late 2008 with the aim of lowering the cost of the contract.
