Carlos Moya officially retired today. A very sad time for this beautiful sport tennis & for Moya fans alike. Just wanted to express you will be missed dearly Charlie. He is a player I always admired, for the special relationship you keep with Rafa Nadal,I strongly believe Moya helped shape Rafa into the player he is today...

His tearful & emotional speech.

Carlos Moya, winner of Roland Garros in 1998 and first Spanish man to be No. 1 ATP ranking, withdrew due to "suffer osteoarthritis in the foot for 20 years" and says he has had

Former tennis world number one Carlos Moya told a news conference at a hotel in Madrid to be withdrawn from the tracks "the month of December in the National Master of Seville", because it has not been able to recover a foot injury suffered by "for a long time."

"The reasons for my retirement due to a foot problem that I suffer for many years, osteoarthritis, from 20 years and operated on me to continue in April last year. I was seven or eight months out and I wanted try again, "said Moya.

"I never got to recover. It went very well and because of that operation had side effects. I started having problems on the outside, a fracture, the tendon was also injured, and now 32 years there is no option," said Moya, who won the Davis Cup with Spain in 2004.

The Mallorcan tennis player, winner of Roland Garros in 1998 and world number one next year, said he tried to "follow" and to that end visited numerous doctors, because I wanted to leave in the best tournaments.

"I wanted to play major tournaments and saying goodbye, but I came to the tournament in Madrid, and although I was not 100% the desire I could. That game was not the dream and then I realized it was time. Ganas had many and I've sacrificed to get back, but I tried everything to heal and could not be, "said Moya.

For the first Spanish man to be number one in the ATP rankings in 1998, the future is now for "rest and be at home. It's been 15 years professional traveling every week, with mental pressure involved. Things change when you have a son. There I was clear it would be difficult to leave my family.

Tennis will remain united
He added it will "linked to tennis, but for now has" several projects. " "I will continue with my gym in Mallorca, I am with a sports company and devoting time to my wife, my daughter and my family. Of course, I will miss the tennis."

Carlos Moya said he has "a lot of experiences, nice situations, many friends, having known countries and cultures. I have experience and endless anecdotes."

"I had a much better race than I ever imagined. Even if you have people accompanying you in the end you're alone on the track and in defeat too. It is a very solitary sport and the positives outweigh the negative by far" all these years, he said.

"My defeat was harder to be injured, because when you're injured you have no option to lose. Now I love watching him. I do not feel hurt by injuries, I've been 15 years and I've only had two serious back the and now the foot, "he said.

Moya has a "special" relationship with Nadal

On his relationship with fellow tennis player Rafael Nadal, Moya said, "to be de Mallorca both think there is a stronger connection. I have always gotten along well with him. From 14 years has trained me and I always asked the questions . What I have been able to benefit him, he also has benefited me me. When you catch the illusion you see. I feel I have helped me. For all I owe anything to what you have achieved. "
