Tennis great Rafael Nadal, who recently won the U.S. Open for the first time, completing a career Grand Slam, may finally write a book
Literary agent Larry Kirshbaum is talking to New York publishers about a memoir—tentatively titled Rafael Nadal, My Story—that would be written with John Carlin, author of Playing the Enemy, which was the basis for the movie Invictus.
Mr. Kirshbaum notes that his job right now is to gauge the level of interest among publishers. He was recently talking up the project at the Frankfurt Book Fair and received a number of provisional offers from overseas.
“[Nadal is] a rock star in Europe and Asia,” the agent says.
An effort about a year ago to put together a Nadal project petered out, but at that time, there was no co-author or formal proposal. It also helps that the top-seeded player has been on a roll lately.
“The winning is important,” Mr. Kirshbaum says. “But there's also a great family story here. The subtitle could be How to Raise a Fine Son Who Also Happens to Be a Tennis Champion.”
