USO Blog: "The Key To Win"

The key is to win when you are not at your best

Hello everyone,

Writing this post today obviously from my hotel room but just minutes away to going to the site for a big match tonight. Verdasco is playing at a great level here and it is always difficult to play another fellow countryman and a friend. He went through those tough moments at a tournament and managed to stay alive. We all go or have to go through those moments and the key is to manage to win even when things are more difficult. You can't always play at your best and the rival, if he plays well can always beat you. That's why it is so important to beat these moments and go through.

So, easy and relax day today again at the hotel, just watched some youtube and a movie and got ready for tonight.

Thanks to all

Rafa

They are playing my tunes in the changeovers

Hola Rafa, There is news that the ATP will look at the schedule for 2012-2013. What will your role be in this as a member of the Players Council? Big hug & xxx, Clare

I am already in the Player Council and we are looking at many things, including the calendar for those years.

Have you ever tried any American sports while in the US? I know that you have gone running and bike riding, but have you ever tried baseball? Or basketball? I think you'd make a GREAT baseball player. The field is both clay AND grass! Good luck in your match against Verdasco! You can do it! Zainab Young, Jeddah SA

No, not really. I like to watch American Football on TV sometimes. Saw the other day some college games and it was fun. I also watch normally NBA basketball.

Did you see the match between David Ferrer and Fernando Verdasco? It was a fantastic match! What can you say to your friend Ferrer after such a loss to help put it in perspective? Sia, Canada

Yes I did see most of it since I was in the locker waiting to go out and play. I am sure his coach will work on that. Don't think it is me who has to do that. Of course when I see him we'll talk about the match in any case.

I noticed that one of the ball boys has been a ball boy in your matches for the last 5 years at the US Open. So I was wondering if you have any friendships with any of the ball kids, or if you ever thank them for their work personally? Cedrine

Not real friendship but I normally remember them. It is just that we don't get to see them after the matches. And no, we don't have ballkids working personally, I can pick up the balls, it won't hurt my back

Hola Rafa, Congrats on the wonderful level of play. My question is:- I love seeing you sing along to the music at the changeovers and I wondered if you have any choice in the music that is played? Also, could you add a few dance moves in next time?! Daisy x

I do, they ask us for our favorite songs and actually are playing some of the songs I mentioned to them. You'll be surprised!!!

Rafa, how are you handling the windy conditions? Native3

It is tough but I believe it is going to be better today. The conditions are the same for both in any case..

You're a very patient person on court and after the match when you sign lots of autographs. Are you patient in everyday life as well for instance when you were waiting for your knees to heal & you couldn't play, did you feel frustrated and how did you cope? Thanks Rafa, good luck, I hope you're biting the trophy on Sunday! Besos y abrazos, Juliette Westbrook-Finch xx

There's no other way! You have to learn and take the best of each moment. Patience is also something important to achieve anything in life!

Just love love love his last answer!! Bravo Rafa!
