Rafa to be honored as Manacor's son
Change the rules to name Rafa Nadal a favorite son
Translation by Ana Ford Sanz
The town of Manacor, yesterday changed its rules of granting honors and awards (Town hall) so that the tennis player, Rafael Nadal can be honored finally as the City's favorite son. Before this, the person honored had to be dead and had to wait a decade after their death to be nominated.
This will be the highest honor in life that an Spaniard can aspire said the Mayor of Manacor, Antoni Pastor, who explained that this change happens because of how confusing the previous regulation was and can lead to multiple interpretations.
Though this proposal was agreed and voted unamiously, the opposition did not fully agree (This has nothing to do with Rafa, the oppostion is talking in general cases). The spokesman for the PSM -ESQUERRA -VERDS (A political party in Mallorca), Sebastian Gaia told the Mayor that there already had been a change in the regulation before because the Mayor and his party wanted to advoid adwarding an writer from Manacor that distinguishment of Distinguished Son "and now you want to change it again for your convenience". (The writer is Miguel Angel Riera)
Nvertheless, Rafael Nadal will not have his potrait hung in the City Hall Room because that is only reserved for those named Distinguished Sons. (Rafa's title will be Favorite Son).
