Rankings & DC

7/15/2010Rafaholics

It's always nice this time of year when Rafa is MIA .. even though there is no news or images of him I do like it when he's living his life normally out of the limelight & being himself in Mallorca!
Also I think that this year's DC vs. France was kinda embarrassing, I'm afraid to say that Rafa is about the only Spaniard who is really committed. And it showed in DC.

Jesus Minguez | 12/07/2010

We were spoiled?
Yes, everything we had come to face with real good years. But be proud of the achievements so far. The tie gave us wrong from the beginning. All games have been close and not get close either.

What went wrong?
Whenever you give turns. If I had made more ... But in the end have played four and we leave with a point. What really went wrong is that the track was very fast, the French played very well and we in the decisive moments, we were not so successful.

Have you noticed that it has lost some spirit? It may have been dead for success.
No. What has been lacking has been a little more success. Ferrer's party escaped in the fifth set, Verdasco came close to forcing the fifth. The double equal. Everything we did wrong. The thing to try is the next year, if still in office, to motivate the players and reaffirm their commitment. There has been no relaxation and confidence. We came serious and was not well.

Have not missed an immediate endorsement from the Federation office?
It is a decision of the president and his board. I am happy with the team, the players get along great and the atmosphere is good. Thereafter, the contract is one year and they are to be decided.

Would you like not having to put Verdasco three days?
All players are increasingly playing doubles and are more involved. It is good that there are more couples to have other options. "I used it in Logroño in Granollers and Robredo. But Verdasco and Feliciano have given us much.

"Spain must adjust and learn to live without Nadal?
Rafa could not come this year for the two qualifiers, but we knew of his knee problems. Treatment should be done to prolong his career and sometimes you have to choose. I hope and trust that next year is one hundred percent. When he gives one more push.

Is not it a bit shocking to see him in the World Cup final while his teammates play?
Uffff! These are personal decisions. I imagine that it will request, because it is a very important event for Spanish sport. I respect him. Rafa has a lot of criteria and gives everything to the Spanish tennis. You can not take anything on face.

Behind these guys, are glimpsed a relay?
So far, there is quality and the immediate future is assured. Then you have to work hard base. In the medium term it looks like a small vacuum, but must rely on Pablo Carreño, Javier Martín and Carlos Boluda, which will make the leap.
