WORLD number one men’s tennis player Rafael Nadal of Spain yesterday caused a storm at the Royal Livingstone Hotel where he was lodged when a group of Spanish tourists burst into chants of “Espania!” ahead of todayís World Cup final in South Africa.
This year’s Wimbledon men’s champion was in Livingstone on his way to South Africa to watch tonight’s World Cup final between Netherlands and Spain at Soccer City.
When approached for a comment, Nadal who was mobbed by Sun International members of staff jostling to take pictures with him said he would talk to the press later after sampling the tourism potential of Livingstone.
“I will talk to you later, as at now I’m rushing for a helicopter flight,” Nadal said.
According to a Sun International member of staff who chose to speak on condition of anonymity, Nadal was in Livingstone to sample the tourism spots of the country before proceeding to South Africa.
“He is here for tourism purposes and he is scheduled to go on a helicopter flight over the Victoria Falls this morning and later visit the falls on foot before going on a boat cruise on the Africa Queen,” the source stated.
