Nadal, who received 36 per cent of the vote, made his Davis Cup debut in 2004, when he played in Spain’s victory over Czech Republic in the first round. He also appeared in the quarterfinals and semifinals, before defeating Andy Roddick to clinch the decisive point for his team against USA in the Final.

Although he missed the 2008 Final through injury, Nadal was in fine form in the 2009 Final, helping Spain to become the first nation in over a decade to successfully retain the title. He defeated both Tomas Berdych and Jan Hajek without dropping a set.

During his Davis Cup career, Nadal has played in 11 ties - all in the World Group - and has compiled a 14-1 win-loss record in singles play. The lone defeat came in his debut rubber against Jiri Novak.

The poll also saw Marat Safin gain 25 per cent of the vote, Roddick 17 per cent and Lleyton Hewitt 13 per cent, while 10 per cent of fans voted for a different player.
