Rafael Nadal William Hill Betting Proposition
Crunch Sports Staff - 4 Mar 2010

Betting odds with William Hill for Nadal to win a Slam this year.

William Hill are running a betting prop on Rafael Nadal and his chances to win a Grand Slam in 2010. With the Australian Open over (Nadal made the quarters) there is only the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open remaining.

Will Nadal win a Slam this year or are his critics right to assume that his injury problems are too pervasive? Here are the odds with William Hill for the proposition "Rafael Nadal to win a Grand Slam in 2010":

Yes: -187 (about 10/19)
No: +137 (27/20)

Nadal's best chance at a Slam title this year is obviously with the French Open. He's never won the US Open and he has only won Wimbledon once (2008). Also, Nadal is currently considered a third favorite for the All England Club's prestigious title (+550, 11/2; Boylesports) as Andy Murray and Roger Federer both have shorter odds.

At the French Open there are a lot more threats to Nadal this year than there have been in past years. If Nadal should draw any of the following players - and he most certainly will if he goes deep into the Roland Garros draw - then you can't be so sure that Nadal will win:

Roger Federer (+250, 5/2; Ladbrokes, our recommended bet)
Juan Martin Del Potro (+500, 5/1; Blue Square)
Nikolay Davydenko (+750, 15/2; Victor Chandler)
Andrew Murray (+1400, 14/1; Blue Square)

Even if Nadal should draw weaker threats like Novak Djokovic, Fernando Verdasco, Robin Soderling, Gael Monfils, Fernando Gonzalez, or Marin Cilic then he, Nadal, could be in some trouble.

Our recommendation is to take the "NO" line at +137. Nadal has looked washed up for so long now that you have to wonder if he will still be in the top 5 come the year end and the ATP World Tour Finals.
