Spain leads Switzerland 2-1 after doubles win
LOGRONO, Spain (AP)—Tommy Robredo and Marcel Granollers have given Spain a 2-1 lead against Switzerland in Davis Cup after beating Stanislas Wawrinka and Yves Allegro in doubles.
Robredo and Granollers won 7-6 (8), 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 Saturday under the roof of the Logrono bullring in northern Spain.
The Spanish duo broke serve to win a tight fourth set and the match.
Spain, playing without injured Rafael Nadal, is attempting to win its third straight Davis Cup title. The Swiss are playing without top-ranked Roger Federer, who decided to skip the event.
In reverse singles Sunday, Ferrer will face Wawrinka and Almagro will play Chiudinelli.
The winner will play France in the quarterfinals July 9-11.
